      Name: openssh
      Version: 5.3p1

      Category: net
      Maintainers: jwa openmaintainer
      Description: OpenSSH secure login server
      Long Description: OpenSSH is a FREE version of the SSH protocol suite of network connectivity tools that increasing numbers of people on the Internet are coming to rely on. Many users of telnet, rlogin, ftp, and other such programs might not realize that their password is transmitted across the Internet unencrypted, but it is. OpenSSH encrypts all traffic (including passwords) to effectively eliminate eavesdropping, connection hijacking, and other network-level attacks. Additionally, OpenSSH provides a myriad of secure tunneling capabilities, as well as a variety of authentication methods.

    If you haven't already installed Darwin Ports, you can find easy instructions for doing so at the main Darwin Ports page.

    Once Darwin Ports has been installed, in a terminal window and while online, type the following and hit return:

      %  cd /opt/local/bin/portslocation/dports/openssh
      % sudo port install openssh
      Password:
    You will then be prompted for your root password, which you should enter. You may have to wait for a few minutes while the software is retrieved from the network and installed for you. Y ou should see something that looks similar to:

      ---> Fetching openssh
      ---> Verifying checksum for openssh
      ---> Extracting openssh
      ---> Configuring openssh
      ---> Building openssh with target all
      ---> Staging openssh into destroot
      ---> Installing openssh
    - Make sure that you do not close the terminal window while Darwin Ports is working. Once the software has been installed, you can find further information about using openssh with these commands:
      %  man openssh
      % apropos openssh
      % which openssh
      % locate openssh
